April 2025: Thought for the Day
Thought for the Day
Fifth Sunday of Lent
6 April 2025
Jesus never wants evil. He only wants what is good and life-giving. Therefore, in his great mercy, he instituted the sacrament of Reconciliation so that no one will be lost, so that we can all find the forgiveness we need, no matter how great our mistakes have been. As Pope Francis said: ‘Let us not forget this: God never tires of forgiving us! The problem is that we ourselves get tired, we do not want to ask, we grow weary of asking for forgiveness. He never tires of forgiving, but at times we get tired of asking for forgiveness. Let’s never get tired! And let us too learn to be merciful to everyone.

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
13 April 2025
Sometimes we are given the impression that the saints are glad to suffer, that it is a mark of their sanctity. But the saint of saints, Jesus himself, saw suffering and torture and cruelty for what they were, hideous and evil. There is one great comfort for us weak sinners in the agony in the garden. The only thing Jesus wanted was his Father’s will; please God that is what we want too. His Father sent an angel to strengthen him, and in one form or another, his Father will send his angel to strengthen us.

Easter Day of the Lord’s Resurrection
20 April 2025
The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad.
The Passover of gladness, the Passover of God.
From death to life eternal, from earth unto the sky,
our Christ hath brought us over, with hymns of victory.
Our hearts be pure from evil, that we may see aright.
the Lord in rays eternal of resurrection light.
and listening to his accents, may hear, so calm and plain,
his own ‘All hail!’ and, hearing, may raise the victor strain.
Now let the heavens be joyful! Let earth the song begin!
Let the round world keep triumph, and all that is therein!
Let all things seen and unseen their notes in gladness blend,
for Christ the Lord hath risen, our joy that hath no end.
St John of Damascus

Second Sunday of Easter
27 April 2025 • Divine Mercy Sunday
Doubt is not a dead end. It can lead to an intensification of faith. It was not the other apostles who acclaimed Jesus with the words ‘My Lord and my God.’ Had they realised at last, that Jesus was truly God as well as truly man? They must have been conscious of it, but perhaps not yet come to articulate so overwhelming a truth. It is doubting Thomas who is the first to acclaim, in unforgettable words, the divine Lordship of Jesus.
