May 2019 Intercom: Features and Content
Our May issue of Intercom is out now! The May edition features: an extensive interview with Sister Máire Hickey OSB, Abbess of Kylemore Abbey (pictured on this month’s front cover); a reflection on the abortion referendum one year on by bioethics commentator David Mullins; and an article by Salvador Ryan of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth, examining the prominence of the Rosary in Irish folklore tales gathered by the Irish Folklore Commission and the Department of Education from Irish school children in the late 1930s.
A new ‘Apologetics’ page appears in this month’s issue, and will run in each future edition of Intercom. This month’s apologetics piece, entitled “Keeping the Cross in Christian Faith”, is by Irish Times columnist, Breda O’Brien. Another new page featured in this month’s issue is the ‘Lectio Divina’ page that will also run in all future issues of Intercom. The ‘Lectio Divina’ page will be available each month free of charge as part of our monthly newsletter resources!

The May issue also features a piece written by poet John F. Deane, “Of Faith and Doubt”, inspired by Seamus Heaney. This piece is followed by a complimentary response from the editor, Father Chris Hayden. Father Willie Purcell offers his thoughts on vocations promotion and also devotion to Mary, as May is observed as a month of special devotion to Our Lady.
